Nordic Program
Learn foundational Nordic Skiing skills in a fun group surrounded by beautiful scenery.
Our 8 week after-school Nordic skiing program is for ages 9 to 14.
Skiing is both a physical sport and a life style choice. To thrive in Nordic skiing is to have an understanding of nature, weather, distance, strength and endurance and be aware of yourself and your surroundings.
We teach students foundational Nordic skills such as stance and balance, race technique, endurance and tools for using cross country skiing as a form of backcountry travel.
The goal of our Nordic Program is to develop strong, passionate and skilled cross country skiers who can race effectively over long distances. We endeavour to inspire knowledgeable skiers and equip them with backcountry travel expertise. Students will have the opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge to various regional races and events that they may choose to enroll in throughout the season, including a Ski Loppet hosted at Blue Mountain WILDE School.
The Details
As with all of our courses, we provide students with a wide variety of engaging learning opportunities. Students learn without realizing that they are learning and develop a sense of curiosity. For instance, we learn about distances and measurements through map work. We learn about weather and snow patterns in the field where students can observe and tangibly connect to the topics we are discussing. We learn about agility and endurance by experiencing it for ourselves.
Students will gain valuable leadership skills throughout our programs as learn to work as a team to over come a variety of challenges. They'll spend their days outside, travelling through forested backcountry ski trails, and engaging with the natural world and themselves.
